MS-PW over TMPLS domains

ITU's version of MPLS and the original IETF standard look similar at the first glance. However, there are substantial differences, which should be discussed in this forum.

MS-PW over TMPLS domains

Postby Crize » Tue Sep 04, 2007 12:33 pm

Hi all,
becouse of my few experience in TMPLS and PWE3, I have some doubts about the interaction between Multi Segment Pseudo Wires and TMPLS and I'd like to have some help from someone.

Consider 2 TMPLS domains (A and B) and an Ethernet service that has its endpoints one in domain A and other one in domain B. The Ethernet service is mapped on MS-PW that has to pass across the two domains to connect its endpoints. So MS-PW is encapsulated in TMPLS tunnels.

My questions are:
1) Have I to compute both MS-PW path and TMPLS tunnels separately???
2) At the edge elements of domains (they are both TMPLS domain!!) have I to decapsulate both TMPLS label and MS-PW label??? Or should I decapsulate only the TMPLS one and left the MS-PW one untouched (considering it just a payload) ???
3) MS-PW uses LDP and TMPLS uses RSVP-TE: can it cause some kind of conflict??

Please......HELP ME !!!!
Thank you all for your kind answers.

Hi crize,

I am currently working on a research on next generation networks because of my final part of my university course (datacommunicatoin). In the Next Gen networks is T-MPLS a huge player.

I am currently at the end of my research of the T-MPLS topic. I am curious what your connection is on the subject. Maybe we can exchange some information.

Now let's take a look at your questions.

1) I dont't really understand your question. But if i get it right this might be the answer. You have to compute both tunnels seperately in TMPLS domains A and B when there is no some kind of routing protocol between to domains like BGP. An other option could be static routing between de domains. If there isn't anything like this between the two I gues you have to compute both tunnels seperately.

2) I think you only have to decapsulate the TMPLS labels at the edge of the domains A and B. If you encapsulate allso the MS-PW label you will lose your QoS parameters and the costomer info, the back route to your branch office.

3) I don't think the two will accure any conflict at all because you created different domains, the protocols will only do their work within their domains.

I hope this info will get you anywhere, feel free to reply on the answers!!!

Greetz!

Hi maarten_vb,
thank you for your answers.
Time passed since i posted this topic so now i have a bit more clear the roles of the PW and T-MPLS.
I am working in inter-domain traffic engineering stuffs, and i am interested on doing that on a T-MPLS transport architecture using MS-PWe3 for E2E services with some QoS. I'm still on the initial part of the work (i do other things too), so i am quite interested to understand fully what kind of QoS parameters have i to exchange between domains and how to monitor them in the network (at T-MPLS level or at MS-PWE3 level???).
Each domain ends a MS-PWE3 section and, even all domains are T-MPLS ones, probably i have to pass QoS parameters somehow to let the following domain know how to setup the next MS-PWE3 and T-MPLS stack, providing the same type of servce of prewious domain.
Do you think that decapsulating only the T-MPLS labels and passing to the next domain the MS-PWE3 will be treated and routed in the correct way just reading the MS-PWE3 label???

So my points are:
1) How have i to pass QoS parameters for aMS-PWe3 E2E service from a domain to another one???
2) How can i monitor those QoS parameters in the network, to know the network's resource status and set other services if needed?
3) Passing from a domain A to a domain B is enough do decapsulate only T-MPLS labels and watch the MS-PWe3 one to understand what kind of service is it and how to treat it in domain B, without loosing QoS informations?

If u want we can share material too (even by pvt messages).
Thanks

Many years after receiving my graduate degree, nike shoes I returned to the State University of New nike shox r4 York at Binghamton asics shoes as a faculty member.d&g shoes One day in a crowded elevator, someone remarked on its inefficiency. I said the elevators had not changed in the 20 years since I began there as a student.

When the door finally opened, I felt a compassionate pat on my back, puma ferrari and turned to see an elderly nun smiling at me. "You'll get that degree, dear," she whispered. "Perseverance is a virtue."
